The Sonic Equivalent of Being Seen: Gender-Inclusive Story Time at Liminal Flares
When you know someone who weaves words the way that my indescribably dear friend S. Elizabeth does, the experience of reading their writing about something you created… It causes my own words to fail me.
When this beautiful post arrived in my inbox courtesy of Sarah’s newsletter, I was so overwhelmed by feels that it took me a while to actually read beyond her first few sentences:
I mean, come on. This just floored me:
Imagine the darkest bronzed honey, harvested during the penumbral glooms of an eclipse; imagine its velvet voice, dusky and low, crooning eerie twilit tales across the ether, eliciting shivers and tingles and thrills. Now imagine never once feeling that jarring sensation when you’ve been abruptly yanked out of the story thanks to outdated, non-inclusive language! Liminal Flares Otherworldly Gender-Inclusive Story Time extends an invitation to slip through a portal like none other, to utterly lose yourself for a sweet, spooky time, in that eldritch, honeyed darkness.
Wrestling with the surges of imposter syndrome is no mean feat.
Read the entire, lovely piece over at Unquiet Things.
While you’re at it, if S. Elizabeth is new to you, I encourage you to explore her wonderful blog, follow her on Instagram and YouTube for a host of delightful reasons, on TikTok for fragrance reviews like no other, and treat yourself to her gorgeous and fascinating books, The Art of the Occult and The Art of Darkness.
And for the record, as though her blog post wasn’t wonderful enough, Sarah didn’t stop there.
She also posted a review on Apple Podcasts:
I am so proud of what we’re doing here at Liminal Flares, but that didn’t prepare for what it feels like to learn that people I know, love, and admire are proud of what we’re doing here, too.
Thank you, sweet Spooder, for a million years of friendship, adventures, support, solidarity, for being one of my safe places, for being an endless source of books, art, music, stinks, & more, and for nurturing Liminal Flares back when it was just a nascent idea inside my head and now for helping it grow.
